Kanha Tiger Reserve

The State animal of Madhya Pradesh - Hard Ground Barasingha is found exclusively in Kanha Tiger Reserve. Through holistic conservation approach and effective management practices, the Tiger Reserve has seen rise in population of this symbolic deer species which was once on the verge of extinction from the Earth.

The lush green forests of Kanha, composed majorly of Sal (Shorea Robusta) and other mixed forest trees, supports the growth of rich and varied flora and fauna.

Flora & Fauna

Kanha best known for its evergreen Sal forests, is home to about 300 species of Birds, 43 species of Mammals, 26 species of Reptiles and more than 500 species of Insects.

The Major species found are hard ground Barasingha, Tiger, Leopard, Dhole, Bear, Gaur and Indian Python etc.

Best Time to visit

The best time to visit the Reserve is 15 Oct to 30 June.

Tourism Zone & Carrying Capacity

Kanha Tiger Reserve has eight Zones, four are in core area namely Kanha ,Kisli, Mukki, Sarhi, one in adjoining Phen Sanctuary and three are in buffer areas of Tiger Reserve adjoining the core namely Khatia, Khapa and Sijhora.

* From Mukki Gate, one can only enter for morning safari in Kanha Zone

* From Sarhi Gate, one can only enter for morning safari in Kisli Zone.

Weather

Kanha being situated in Central India is subjected to tropical monsoonal climate. The month of January may also witness sub-zero temperatures and frost. Monsoon arrives in the second week of June. The average temperature over the months is as below:
